Chris Roerden, a native New Yorker, has edited a thousand+ manuscripts during a 43-year career as an editor. Her clients have been published by Midnight Ink, Berkley Prime Crime, Viking, Walker, Rodale, Intrigue, St. Martin’s, and others, and she has helped writers win 22 awards, including an Agatha for best first novel. Chris taught writing for the U of Maine and Empire State College of SUNY, and evening classes in writing for publication at the U of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After moving to North Carolina in 1999, Chris served 6 years on the Mystery Writers of America SE regional board. A long-time member of Sisters in Crime, Publishers Marketing Association, and Mensa, she is also past president of a Midwest publishers trade association founded by John Kremer, and past president of the Wisconsin National Organization for Women. She holds an MA in English and a BA summa cum laude. DON’T MURDER YOUR MYSTERY is her 10th book; 8 were commissioned, 4 of those ghostwritten. For her next book she is asking writers to submit passages from their work to be used as positive examples of the techniques she discusses in DON’T MURDER YOUR MYSTERY. It is an Agatha Award Finalist for Best Nonfiction Book and a selection (effective July 2007) of the Writer’s Digest Book Club.
